Kindergarten (2nd Edition) in Action!

Since launching our new Kindergarten (2nd Edition) curriculum last summer, we’ve been blown away by how many schools nationwide are choosing to adopt our new research-based curriculum. Research-based instruction plays a vital role in ensuring children can crack the alphabetic code, but it should also be evidence-based to prove that it actually works. Here's what Buckhorn Creek Elementary, NC had to say about our new Kindergarten curriculum:

“Teachers feel like they are moving students faster to more complex phonological and phonemic awareness skills, and the data supports this accelerated progression”.

One of the most popular additions is the regular Review and Consolidate lessons. Take a look at some clips from Unit 15, Lesson 75 to see part of the new curriculum in action!

Ears Ready

Children love starting the day with our new Ears Ready strand! It has been designed to provide oral phonological and phonemic awareness practice. It's quick and easy, and gets students listening attentively right from the start.

In this lesson the focus is Rhyme Production, check out the full scope and sequence here.

Phonological Awareness: Rhyme Production

Quick Dash & Sounds Race

These core teaching strategies are used to revise and consolidate letter shapes and letter sounds. Over time the children will work towards a quick and automatic letter sound response to the plain letter.

Here the teacher is using Phonics Online to do a Quick Dash and Sounds Race, but they can also be done using the Pocket Chart with Picture Code Cards.

Let's Review from Unit 15, Whole Group Lesson 75

Blending & Segmenting using Phonics Online Cards Tool

The Cards Tool in Phonics Online provides teachers with relevant cards, simply by selecting the unit and lesson. The Word Builder provides students with independence, allowing them to build or make changes to words.

Here the students are using the Roller Coaster Trick to blend sounds and the Rubber Band Trick to segment words.
